Now, students without biology at class 10 & +2 can become doctors! Here’s how

Students who have completed their class 10 and +2 examinations, with a focus on physics, chemistry, and mathematics, can still pursue the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET (UG) and become doctors.

New Delhi: Students who have cleared their class 10 and +2 exams without biology also now can become doctors. This may sound strange, but as per the latest guidelines of the National Medical Commission (NMC), the students who have completed their class 10 and +2 examinations, with a focus on physics, chemistry, and mathematics, can still pursue the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate) or NEET (UG) and become doctors.

As per the new guideline of the NMC, the students who have cleared 10 and +2 with physics, chemistry and mathematics as their core subjects will be eligible to appear the NEET (UG) and after clearing the all India pre-medical entrance test can take admission to MBBS and BDS courses. However, they have to pass biology/biotechnology examination as an additional subject at class 10 and +2 level from any recognised board. Besides, they need to get an eligibility certificate from the NMC, a legal document confirming their eligibility to study the undergraduate medical courses outside the country.

It is to be noted here that it was mandatory for the candidates to undergo two years of regular (and not through an open school) study in physics, chemistry, biology/biotechnology, and English, including practicals, during Classes 10 and 12 to be eligible to appear the NEET (UG) and take admission into the MBBS or BDS programs,
