Nation pays homage to Dr B R Ambedkar on Maharparinirvan Diwas

New Delhi: The people of India on Thursday paid homage to the Architect of the Indian Constitution Baba Saheb Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his 63rd Mahaparinirvan Diwas.

Bharat Ratna Ambedkar breathed his last on 6th December, 1956.  The Day is observed as Mahaparinirvan Diwas every year.

President Ram Nath Kovind offered floral tribute at the statue of Baba Saheb at Sansad Bhavan Lawns in the Parliament House complex.

Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former PM Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot, Congress President Rahul Gandhi and other dignitaries also offered tributes to Dr. Ambedkar.

PM Modi tweeted, “India bows to Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar on Mahaparinirvan Diwas.”

Dr.  Ambedkar was a political reformer who fought for the rights of ‘untouchables’ and played a key role in not just India’s Independence but also in the making of the Constitution of India as the Chairman of the Drafting Committee.
