Mumbai couple sold two children for Rs 74,000 to buy drugs

The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a couple along with a woman on charges of selling their two children for Rs 74,000 and using the money to buy drugs.

Mumbai: The Mumbai Crime Branch arrested a couple along with a woman on charges of selling their two children for Rs 74,000 and using the money to buy drugs.

The arrested couple has been identified as Shabbir Shamsher Khan and Saniya Shabbir Khan while the agent has been identified as Usha Rathod.

The couple, the agent and buyer were booked under section 370 (4) (trafficking a minor) and 370 (5) (trafficking more than one minor) of the Indian Penal Code and sections of the Juvenile Justice Act.

The matter came to light after Shabbir’s sister Rubina Khan filed a case against the couple. She alleged that while they sold her younger nephew when he was aged six months to someone in Andheri for Rs 60,000, they sold the girl on the very day she was born to a DN Nagar resident for a mere Rs 14,000.

Based on the allegation, police initiated an investigation and arrested the trio.
