Man sets teen cousin on fire for refusing to marry him in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow: In a shocking incident, a 16-year-old girl was allegedly set ablaze by her cousin for refusing to marry him at Jarakhar village of Hamirpur district in Uttar Pradesh. This was informed by the police on Monday.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Santosh Kumar Singh said that the accused followed the girl when she had gone out to attend nature’s call on Sunday evening. He, then, started putting pressure on her to flee and get married.

However, when the girl denied to his proposal, the accused got angry and set her ablaze after pouring kerosene on her, Singh added.

Alerted by the girl, some locals rushed to the spot and rescued her, who has suffered 50-per-cent burns and admitted her to a hospital.

Based on the complaint of the girl’s father, the local police have registered a case against the accused and have launched a manhunt to nab the absconding accused.
