Uttarakhand: At least 11 people died while 14 others were injured after a passenger bus fell into a gorge near Damta on Uttarkashi-Yamunotri Highway today.
According to sources, the road mishap took place around 12.30 PM when a private bus was on its way to Vikasnagar from Janki Chatti with the passenger. The bus fell into gorge after the driver lost control over it, added the sources.
On being informed about the matter, Damta police rushed to the spot and carried out the rescue operation with the help of the locals.
While the bodies of nine persons were recovered from the gorge, two persons died en route hospital.
Among the 14 injured admitted to Damta hospital.
The death toll is likely to increase as rise, as five of the 14 injured persons are stated to be critical. Efforts were being made to shift them critically injured persons to Dehradun.
