The 1986 batch Odisha cadre IPS was working as the joint director in the CBI. He will look after all the functions and duties of the CBI director and take over the duties and functions with immediate effect, said an official release.

The development comes a day after the high drama involving CBI director, Alok Verma and special director, Rakesh Asthana that began with the former filing a case against the later, accusing him of bribery in an investigation. Both Verma and Asthana have been sent on leave.
