Abhijit Iyer Mitra sent to Jharpada jail

Bhubaneswar: The city-based Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court today rejected the bail plea of journalist Abhijit Iyer Mitra, who was arrested earlier in the evening today, and sent him to the Jharpada jail.

According to sources, the court sent Abhijit to a 14-day judicial custody after the Commissionerate Police, which had arrested him, produced before it post his medical examination.

Meanwhile, Nimapada and Konark police in Puri district have sought for a seven-day remand of the controversial scribe.

The Commissionerate Police arrested him in connection with a case filed at Sahid Nagar Police Station under sections 294, 295A, 153A, 500, 506 of IPC and section 67 of the Information Technology Act over his derogatory remarks against Odisha and Konark Sun Temple. He was arrested after hours of interrogation.
