Jammu and Kashmir comes under President’s rule from midnight

New Delhi: President’s rule came into force in Jammu and Kashmir from midnight Wednesday as Ram Nath Kovind signed a proclamation to this effect on Wednesday.

Six-months of Governor’s rule has come to an end on December 19.

On June 20, Governor’s rule was imposed in Jammu and Kashmir after the state plunged into political turmoil following BJP withdrawal of its support to the PDP government led by Mehbooba Mufti, reducing PDP to minority.

Earlier, Union Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given its go-ahead for President’s Rule beyond December 19.
