New Delhi: In the latest development in the Congress income tax case, the IT dept told the SC to shift the hearing to June, said reports on Monday.

according to available reports, Income Tax department has told the Supreme Court that it will not take any coercive step to recover Rs.  1700 crores from Congress party. The IT department further added that during the Lok Sabha elections it will not coerce the party.

It is further worth mentioning here that the Income Tax Department has urged the court to post the matter for hearing in June. The IT department also added that it does not want to create problems for any party during the upcoming General Elections 2024.

The party equated the Congress income tax notice to “tax terrorism” and alleged that it was a blatant attempt to cripple the party financially ahead of the elections.

The party accused the I-T department of singling it out in tax recovery while bypassing BJP’s tax violations to the tune of Rs 42 crore.

Addressing a press conference, Congress treasurer Ajay Maken said, “I-T dept snatched Rs 135 crore from Congress accounts for alleged violation of Rs 14 lakh but closed its eyes on a similar violation of Rs 42 crore by BJP,”
