IMD Predicts heavy rainfall in South India, dense fog in Northern states

The Indian Meteorological department predicts heavy rainfall in the Southern region of India, especially in Tamil Nadu.

The Indian Meteorological department predicts heavy rainfall in several regions of South India, especially in Tamil Nadu. The Andaman and Nicobar islands may experience heavy rainfall, while light showers are expected in the southern states over the next couple of days.

Fishermen have been advised to stay cautious, avoiding the south Andaman Sea and the South East Bay of Bengal till Friday. Further, the Southwest and Central Bay of Bengal should also be avoided on Thursday and Friday.

Dense fog is likely in Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and some areas of North-East India, affecting visibility. Widespread light to moderate rainfall, along with isolated thunderstorms is likely in Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal, and Uttarakhand until Thursday.

Furthermore, rain is likely to lash the states of Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and Chhattisgarh in the next three days.

Temperatures in the North-West and Central India are expected to drop by two to three degree Celsius over the next two days. Dense fog is likely in the isolated areas in the morning in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, and Rajasthan on Thursday. Shallow to moderate fog is expected in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura in the next three days.

In other news, the central government has eased the pollution curbing measured in Delhi due to the improved air quality. The air quality has reportedly moved up from the ‘severe’ to ‘very poor’ category. The Delhi Air Quality Index (AQI) in the city improved from 395 on Monday to 312 on Tuesday.

The Commission for Air Quality Management announced the immediate rollback of stage 3 anti-pollution measures in the National Capital Region.
