‘I am fine, you people go home’: Trapped Uttarakhand tunnel worker tells to his brothers

Rescue efforts are in full swing in Uttarakhand as 41 construction workers remain trapped for the tenth day following a tunnel collapse.

Dehradun: Rescue efforts are in full swing in Uttarakhand as 41 construction workers remain trapped for the tenth day following a tunnel collapse. A breakthrough came as rescuers successfully sent a camera to capture visuals of the trapped workers, providing a ray of hope for their families.

The endoscopic flexi camera, inserted through a six-inch pipe used to deliver food, captured images early this morning. The use of walkie-talkies or radio handsets to communicate with the workers marks a significant development in the ongoing rescue operation.

Families, anxiously awaiting outside the tunnel, received some relief when one worker’s brother, Vikram Singh, spoke to his trapped sibling. “He told me that they are safe. He also asked me about our parents,” Vikram Singh informed NDTV.

Pushkar Singh, Vikram’s brother, is among the 41 men trapped since November 12, when a section of the tunnel collapsed. The prolonged confinement raises concerns about the workers’ health, prompting the need for comprehensive rehabilitation, both mentally and physically.

Rescue officials assured families that workers would be rescued soon. Vikram Singh recounted learning about his brother’s situation four days after the incident when a friend called. The rescue team’s progress includes reaching the tunnel from the top using a vertical drilling machine, a process that took 13 hours and three vehicles.
