Drunk taxi driver rams into crowded market in Delhi, 1 killed, 15 injured

Delhi: A speeding taxi driver ram into a crowded market in Ghazipur of East Delhi on Wednesday night, leaving 15 people injured and killing one woman. As per police reports, the driver was drunk during the mishap.

The deceased has been identified as Seeta Devi, a resident of Ghaziabad in Uttar Pradesh. According to reports, of the 15 people, seven people are said to be critically injured. They have been rushed to the Lal Bahadur Shastri Hospital and are undergoing treatment.

Reportedly, the taxi was on its way to Mayur Vihar Phase 3, when the driver, reportedly under the influence of alcohol, rammed his car into the crowded Budh Bazaar area of Ghazipur around 9:30 pm.

The incident was captured on CCTV cameras installed on the road. The visuals revealed that the vehicle suddenly lost control and veered left and rammed into a man and his handcart, and other shops lining the road. As locals gather and start breaking the car’s windshield, it backs up and drives away.

In footage the car is seen dangerously swerving through the narrow and busy road, locals chasing it on foot.

However, the locals managed to catch the driver. They vandalised the car, smashing its windshield, and breaking the doors before tipping it over.

After receiving information about the incident, police reached the spot and initiated a probe into the matter.
