BSF nabs Bangladesh man with 296 smuggled Indian star tortoises

The Border Security Force (BSF) caught a Bangladeshi man trying to smuggle 296 Indian star tortoises from India to Bangladesh.

West Bengal: In a recent incident, the Border Security Force (BSF) caught a Bangladesh man trying to smuggle 296 Indian star tortoises from India to Bangladesh. The BSF officials received a tip about this illegal activity and acted quickly. 

They caught the man from Bangladesh in North 24 Parganas. The smuggler has been identified as Rafikul Sheikh, aged 36. Reportedly, Sheikh tried to escape, but the BSF soldiers tracked him down. They recovered three bags filled with the Indian star tortoises from Sheikh.

During questioning, he confessed that he sneaked into India from Bangladesh on December 6. This was after he received instructions from his Bangladeshi friend Jakir Hussain. Sheik collected the Indian star tortoises from an Indian dealer and was on his way to deliver them to Hussain. 

The BSF handed over the BAngladesg man with Indian star tortoises to West Bengal police. The rescued tortoises have been safely handed over to the forest office in Bangoan.
