Three staffers were killed after a local train ran over them between Vasai Road and Naigaon on the UP slow line in Mumbai

Mumbai: Three staffers were killed after a local train ran over them near Mumbai. The incident occurred between Vasai Road and Naigaon on the UP slow line while the staffers were fixing a signalling issue.

The deceased have been identified as Vasu Mitra, the chief signalling inspector in Bhayander, Somnath Uttam Lambutre, the electrical signalling maintainer and helper Sachin Wankhade.

According to reports, the three staffers had gone to fix some signalling point that failed on Monday evening when the accident occurred. Reportedly, all the deceased were from the signalling department of the Mumbai division.

Following the incident, the authorities have paid ex-gratia of Rs 55,000 each to family members of the deceased. Meanwhile, the Western Railway ordered an inquiry into the incident.
