2019 Election Results: Congress Leading In 8 Seats In Punjab

Chandigarh: The Congress has successfully thwarted the ‘Modi Wave’ in Punjab as the grand old party is leading in 8 seats in the northern state.

The Congress is leading in Amritsar, Faridkot, Anandpur Sahib, Jalandhar, Khadoor Sahib, Ludhiana, Fatehgarh Sahib and Patiala seats.

On the other hand, the BJP is ahead on two seats, Hoshiarpur and Gurdaspur. The Aam Aadmi Party, which had surprised many by winning four seats in the 2014 general election, is leading only on Sangrur seat, according to the trends.

NDA ally Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) was leading on just two seats, Ferozepur and Bathinda, where party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal and Union minister Harsimrat Kaur Badal are contesting, respectively, as per the Election Commission trends.

Noteworthy, Punjab had recorded a voter turnout of 65.96 per cent on May 19 for the 13 Lok Sabha seats in the state, almost five per cent lower than the turnout in the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.
