World Kidney Day is observed globally on the second Thursday of March to raise awareness of these vital organs. Kidneys help to filter waste products, regulate blood pressure, and keep us healthy. However, today’s lifestyles impact our kidneys drastically.

Presently, around 850 million people globally are suffering from some form of kidney-related alignment. Out of these, Diabetic nephropathy is a leading cause for concern in recent times. To maintain good kidney health we need to maintain a good and healthy lifestyle. Here are some tips for the betterment of your kidney health:

Reduced salt consumption:

Excessive salt intake can increase blood pressure and put a strain on the kidneys. By limiting processed foods, restaurant meals, and excessive table salt you can keep your kidneys healthy. In place of salt better go for herbs and natural spices to add flavor to your food.

Stay hydrated:

The human body consists of 70 percent of water. It is essential for flushing toxins and keeping your kidneys functioning perfectly. To have a healthy kidney, try to drink eight glasses of water daily.

Limit sugary drinks:

Beverages containing sugar like sodas and juices contribute to weight gain can elevate blood pressure and also can risk one’s kidney. In place of sugary beverages, choose water, unsweetened tea, or black coffee.

Proper diet:

A proper diet is very much essential for one’s health. Add fruits, vegetables, and whole grains to your meals. These nutrient-rich foods provide essential vitamins and minerals while keeping your weight in check, reducing stress on your kidneys.

Manage stress:

High amount of stress can contribute to high blood pressure, impacting kidney health. Try to manage it and find healthy ways to manage stress, such as yoga, meditation, or spending time in nature.

Exercise:

Exercising regularly helps maintain a healthy weight, manage blood pressure, and improve overall well-being. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate intensity exercise most days of the week. Walking, cycling, swimming, or dancing is all excellent options.
