FASTag was made mandatory for all vehicles, private and commercial in India from midnight of February 15, 2021. The vehicles which do not have FASTag will have to pay twice the normal rate as a penalty.

Therefore, you should get a Fastag for your vehicle as soon as possible to avoid paying double penalty.

What is FASTags ?:

FASTag is a prepaid rechargeable tags which deducts toll charges automatically from the linked bank account or wallet and helps you pass through toll plaza without stopping to pay the toll. The FASTag are normally affixed on the vehicle’s windscreen.

The FASTag functions on Radio-frequency Identification (RFID) technology. FASTags have no validity, they can be used as long as they are visible and not tampered.

How To Buy FASTag ?:

FASTag can be purchased at various Point-of-Sale (POS) at National Highway toll plazas and you can link it with different certified bank such as SBI, ICICI Bank, Axis bank, Paytm Payment Banks, HDFC bank, IDFC First bank, etc. You can also buy FASTag on Amazon. You need to activate the FASTag.

How To activate FASTag ?:

Self-Activation: 

FASTag is not linked to any specific bank at the time you purchase it from a PoS terminal or online platform. You can activate FASTags online yourself by entering your vehicle details in the ‘My FASTag’ mobile app. You can link the FASTag with your existing bank accounts through the app.

Android users can download the ‘My FASTag’ app from google play store and iPhone users can download the app from Apple store.

You can also use the NHAI (National Highways Authority of India) Prepaid wallet facility available in the ‘My FASTag’ app. You can recharge money to your FASTag’ wallet and use it to pay your toll charges instead of paying from your bank account.

The FASTag wallet has a limit of Rs 20,000.

You can also purchase the FASTag by buying it from a certified bank and linking the FASTag with your existing bank account.

To activate the FASTag, you need to submit the KYC (Know Your Customer) documentation, the Registration Certificate (RC) of the vehicle and the application for FASTag in the bank.

You should note that one FASTag can not be used with two or more vehicles, you will have to buy two separate FASTags for the two vehicles and so on.
