Rice for diabetic patient now being harvested in Odisha; Details, watch
As normal white rice is considered harmful for diabetic patients, people who fall victim to these disease gets troubled to consume rice, which is the major food in Odisha. In a good news for such diabetic patients, a farmer from Jajpur district is harvesting rice for diabetic patients and selling it at a much cheaper price than the variety of rice available in the market. A report.
Jajpur: Various food items are prohibited for diabetic patients. Even rice, which is the major food of Odisha is prohibited for diabetic patients keeping his health in concern. Hence, such patients are afraid to eat rice.
However, a farmer in Odisha has come up with a rice variety which is beneficial for diabetic patients. The rice produced from the ‘Telangana Sona RNR 15048’ variety of paddy is said to be very beneficial and not harmful for diabetic patients.
Umesh Chandra Nayak from Injanpur village in Ghantiali Panchayat under Binjharpur block has harvested this special paddy variety in Jajpur district. The said variety is claimed to be very much beneficial for diabetic patients.
As per reports, for an ordinary person, the rice which he eats contains more than 80% carbohydrate which is harmful for a diabetic patient, but the rice produced here has 50% carbohydrate.
Umesh was working with a pharmaceutical out of the state at a hefty salary. However, after knowing about this paddy variety and its benefits, he quit the job to switch over to farming profession. He started farming in his village in Jajpur district of Odisha.
Initially he succeeded by farming on one acre patch of land. He has now plan to harvest more.
Normally the rice that is available in Odisha for diabetes patient is sold at an approximate price of Rs 250/ kg, however the diabetic rice produced by Umesh is much cheaper than that.
Reportedly, doctors say that this rice has a low glycaemic index (GI) which is more beneficial for diabetes patients.
