Berhampur: A Non Resident Indian from Odisha has lately garnered appreciation from nature lovers as well as people of the local area for planting as many as 108 trees in Sukunda village of Ganjam district. Interestingly, he came all the way from the United States to this village and took initiative to plant these trees. Besides, he has also adopted these trees and thus he will be taking care of the trees.

Meet Binaya Mohanty from Kalu Patra sahi of Berhampur. He loves to plant trees. He is a native of Berhampur city, yet he has been living in the United States for 17 years. He works as a software engineer in a private company in the US.

As a child, Binaya had a weakness for trees and used to plant trees in various places in his neighborhood.

A few days ago he came to know from social media about the members of the ‘Sabuja Bahini’, planting hundreds of trees near a pond in Sukunda village of Ganjam district.

Within no time the NRI plant lover contacted the Green Force (Sabuja Bahini) members. He then flew from America to reach Sukunda village, a suburb of Berhampur.

The plant lover Binaya took initiative and within a few days 108 trees were planted near a pond. Apart from this, he has also adopted these trees. That means he is taking care of these trees. Once he will return back to the US, the members of the Sabuja Bahini will take care of the trees.

“I used to plant seedlings since I was a child. Now, after adopting 108 trees, it feels very happy to plant so many trees and adopt them. Planting tree is important for the environment. Yet, it is also important that the planted trees should be taken care of to make them last longer,” Vinay said.

After learning about the plantation work of Sabuja Bahini, now many people are flocking to Sukunda village every day to witness the plantation. Besides, they are also taking initiative to plant new trees.

After planting trees here, the environment has completely changed in the past few months. Those who are coming here to plant trees for one time also are expressing their desire to plant more trees here.

The trees will grow up in the coming days and will not only work to keep the environment healthy but also become a habitat for many birds, Vinay hoped.

Therefore, we will take care of the 108 trees that we have adopted and how to make them last longer, said the members of the Green Force.

The locals have hoped that inspired by the work of the NRI and Sabuja Bahini if more people like Vinay plant trees and adopt them, it will be a solid step to keep the environment healthy.
