Veteran actor Junior Mehmood passes away at 67 after long battle with cancer

Well-known veteran actor Naeem Sayyed, fondly known as Junior Mehmood, has passed away at the age of 67 after battling stomach cancer.

Well-known veteran actor Naeem Sayyed, fondly known as Junior Mehmood, has passed away at the age of 67 after battling stomach cancer. The actor breathed his last at his residence in Khar, Mumbai. Mehmood will always be remembered for his roles in iconic films like ‘Caravan,’ ‘Haathi Mere Saathi,’ and ‘Mera Naam Joker.’

Junior Mehmood’s family confirmed the sad news, stating,  “Mehmood passed away at 2:15 am at his residence. He was suffering from stomach cancer. May his eternal soul rest in peace.” The actor’s son, Husnain, revealed that they discovered his fourth-stage stomach cancer only 18 days ago. Despite the option of treatment at Tata Memorial Hospital, the family decided to take care of him at home due to the advanced stage of the illness. 

Starting his film career as a child artist with ‘Mohabbat Zindagi Hai’ in 1966, Junior Mehmood went on to have a prolific career with notable contributions to the Bollywood industry. He worked in films like ‘Suhaag Raat,’ ‘Kati Patang,’ ‘Geet Gaata Chal,’ and many more. His association with comedy legend Mehmood led to him being given the screen name Junior Mehmood.

Apart from his film roles, Junior Mehmood also ventured into television with shows like ‘Pyaar ka dard hai Meetha Meetha Pyaara Pyaara’ and ‘Ek Rishta Saajhedaari ka.’ Additionally, he even ventured into Marathi Cinema as a producer and director. 

The funeral of Mehmood is scheduled to take place at Santacruz Kabrastan. He is survived by his wife Lata and two sons. The actor’s demise is being mourned by fans and colleagues.
