Director Anil Sharma aims to send ‘Gadar 2’ for Oscars consideration

Mumbai: Acclaimed filmmaker Anil Sharma, the creative force behind the blockbuster movie ‘Gadar 2,’ has expressed his aspiration to have the film considered for the prestigious Oscars.

Amidst the resounding success and accolades garnered by ‘Gadar 2,’ Anil Sharma voiced his desire for the film to be submitted as a contender for the Oscars. The movie, which stars Sunny Deol in the lead role, has taken the box office by storm, emerging as an unexpected blockbuster.

In a recent interview with Indianexpress.com, director Anil Sharma remarked, “People are calling me repeatedly to send the film to the Oscars. ‘Gadar: Ek Prem Katha’ (2001) didn’t go, so I don’t know how ‘Gadar 2’ will fare, but we are pursuing it. ‘Gadar 2’ deserves the opportunity, and we believe it should be considered. ‘Gadar’ deserved it as well. It presented the story of the 1947 partition in a unique and original manner, and ‘Gadar 2’ continues that tradition with its fresh and original storyline.”

Notably, in the same year, Aamir Khan’s critically acclaimed ‘Lagaan’ received a nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category at the Oscars.

Anil Sharma also emphasized that while ‘Gadar 2’ has deeply touched the hearts of audiences, acknowledgment through an award would be a gratifying achievement.

“We have touched people’s hearts with ‘Gadar 2.’ I won’t deny that we too aspire for awards. However, I did not expect it because I knew it would be a challenge. I’ve heard there’s a significant element of lobbying and public relations involved in these processes, and I’m not inclined towards political maneuvering. I have never lobbied for awards,” Anil Sharma concluded.

Apart from Sunny Deol, ‘Gadar 2’ features Utkarsh Sharma and Ameesha Patel in pivotal roles, contributing to its resounding success at the box office and sparking conversations about its potential journey to the Oscars.
