3 Years Of ‘Neerja’: Sonam Kapoor Shares Emotional Post, Remembers Rama Bhanot

Besides Sonam Kapoor, Neerja also featured Shabana Azmi, Jim Sarbh, Shekhar Ravjiani and Yogendra Tiku in pivotal roles

Mumbai: To mark 3 years of her film ‘Neerja’, National-Award winning actor Sonam Kapoor shared an emotional video on Instagram in which she spoke about the experience of working on the film.

In the video, Sonam also remembered Neerja Bhanot’s mother Rama Bhanot recalled how the latter addressed her as “laado” the first time she met her. “The first thing Rama aunty said was “Ye to meri laado hai,” says Sonam.

‘Neerja’, which released on February 19, 2016, featured Sonam Kapoor in the role of Braveheart flight attendant Neerja Bhanot, who died in her attempt to save the 359 passengers onboard the Pan Am Flight 73, which was hijacked in Karachi International Airport on September 5, 1986.

Sharing the video on Instagram, Sonam wrote- “When you do a movie that is based on such reality and pain and follows the true story of heroism and love, it’s truly overwhelming. Three years later, I am honoured to convey this inspirational story. #3YearsOfNeerja.”

Directed by Ram Madhvani, ‘Neerja’ received several awards and accolades, including two National Film Awards and six Filmfare Awards. The film was a critical as well as a commercial success and went on to become the highest grossing female-oriented film in Bollywood. For her portrayal of Neerja Bhanot, Sonam Kapoor received a Special Mention at the 64th National Film Awards in 2017 as well as Filmfare Best Actor Female (Critics).
