Bhagirathi Sethi says ‘NO’ to BJP ticket, rejoins BJD

Bhubaneswar: In what could be considered as most shocking for the Odisha unit of BJP and the state politics, Bhagirathi Sethi rejoined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) today even after getting a BJP ticket to contest the ensuing polls from Anandapur assembly seat in Keonjhar district.

Sethi joined the conch party along with hundreds of his supporters in the presence of BJD president and Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik and other senior party leaders at Naveen Niwas this afternoon.

“I am glad that Shri Bhagirathi Sethi has returned to the Biju Janata Dal. His rejoining will strengthen the party,” said Patnaik while welcoming Sethi to the party.

“The main reason why I left BJP is that I felt insecure there due to the infighting in the party and conspiracy against me, especially at the grass-root level. Besides, I belonged to Biju-parivar from the beginning and so it is my homecoming to the BJD family,” said Bhagirathi, who had resigned from BJD in 2014 and joined the saffron fold.

Notably, Sethi’s name was announced as BJP candidate from Anandpur on March 21.  After eight days, he joined BJD today.

The conch party also gave him a ticket to fight the upcoming election. With this, Bhagirathi, perhaps, became the only politician whose name has found a place in the candidates’ lists of both BJP and BJD.
