Skoda Slavia might be next revolutionary sedan in the Indian market

Czech automaker Skoda is all set to launch its upcoming sedan Skoda Slavia in the Indian market. It seems as a big move for the company as it is trying to enter the premium mid-size sedan segment in India. The launch of Skoda Slavia in India seems as a move to strengthen its automobile business in India. Recently the company launched its mid-size SUV Skoda Kushaq in India.

Even though Skoda had mentioned earlier that the Skoda Slavia will get launched in India in 2021, no official declaration about the dates has been made yet. It is quite unlikely that the Skoda Slavia will replace the Skoda Rapid in India. However, the Slavia is expected to be longer than Rapid along with some more enhancements. The Skoda Slavia is expected to be based on the MQB-A0-IN platform, which is used in the recently launched SUV Kushaq.

Even though Skoda has teased the silhouette of the Slavia, there is not much information to gather from the picture. As far as it can be seen, the upcoming sedan features a sharp look. As the mid-size sedan segment does not have ample cars in India, Skoda expects to gain significant success with this sedan. Keeping in mind the taste of the Indian car buyers, this decision of Skoda to invest in the mid-size sedan segment is quite tricky. Only time will tell whether Slavia will become successful in India or not.

After its launch, the Skoda Slavia will compete with the likes of sedans like Honda City, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz, Hyundai Verna as well as Volkswagen Vento.

Skoda Motors has recently launched a matte edition of its popular sedan Skoda Rapid in India. The new sedan gets an exclusive colour theme in its exterior as well as its interior. While the exterior of the vehicle gets a Carbon Steel Matte colour the interior colour is Tellur Grey.

In terms of price, the new Skoda Rapid Matte Edition is priced at Rs 11.99 lakh (ex-showroom) for the Manual Transmission variant. The Automatic Transmission variant is offered at just Rs 13.49 lakh (ex-showroom). The sedan is powered by a 1.0-litre 2 cylinder TSI turbo petrol engine that generates a maximum power of 109 bhp. The maximum torque of the sedan is 175 Nm. The engine is mated with a 6-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox
