OpenAI tries to tempt Google AI employees with $10 million paychecks

OpenAI is reportedly offering pay packages of up to $ 10 million to lure Google AI employees to intensify its competition.

In a move to intensify its competition with Google AI, OpenAI is reportedly offering pay packages of up to $ 10 million to lure top researchers from the tech giant. The AI company is also providing access to cutting-edge tech resources, including AI accelerator chips, to further entice potential hires.

OpenAI’s aggressive recruitment strategy comes as the company prepares for an employee share sale that could value the firm at a staggering $86 billion. If successful, this move could result in compensation packages ranging from $5 million to $10 million for newly acquired talent.

The company’s recent efforts have already yielded results, with OpenAI successfully recruiting experts from Google and Meta. In the launch announcement for ChatGPT last November, they recognized five researchers who used to work at Google. Additionally, information from LeadGenius and Punks & Pinstripes indicates that OpenAI has brought in a total of 93 people who had previous stints at Google and Meta.

OpenAI’s focus on aligning AI systems with human interests is evident in its job listing for a research engineer with its superalignment team. The listing offers an annual salary ranging from $245,000 to $450,000, along with “generous equity” and other benefits. Jan Leike, OpenAI’s head of super alignment, emphasizes the team’s commitment to enhancing AI safety and actively seeks candidates passionate about this mission.

While OpenAI has remained tight-lipped about these developments, the escalating talent war between OpenAI and Google underscores the intense competition in the AI industry. Both companies are vying for the best minds to drive innovation and advancements in artificial intelligence.
