How does the new Maruti Celerio fare against its rivals in terms of price, features and performance

The second generation of Maruti Suzuki Celerio has been launched on November 10 and the company is quite hopeful about its performance in the market. The 2021 Maruti Celerio has been launched with a single petrol engine and is priced between Rs 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and Rs 6.94 lakh (ex-showroom). Maruti has also emphasised on the fuel-efficiency of the Celerio (which is 26.68 kmpl). Given the segment of the Celerio, there can be primarily four competitions of the hatchback- Hyundai Santro, Tata Tiago, Maruti WagonR and Renault Kwid.

As the new Celerio is offered in a lone 1.0-litre petrol engine, the rival cars except for Renault Kwid have similar (1.0 litre- 1.2 litre) engine. The 1.0 litre version of the Kwid is taken into consideration.

Engine

The new Celerio is powered by a next-generation k-series dual-jet (K10C) 998cc engine. It produces maximum power of 67PS and peak torque of 89Nm. In terms of transmission, the gearbox is 5 speed MT or AMT and gives maximum fuel efficiency of 26.68 kmpl.

The Hyundai Santro gets a 1.1 litre petrol engine mated with 5-speed MT/ AMT gearbox and gives 69PS of power and 99Nm of torque. The maximum fuel efficiency offered by the car is 20.3 kmpl.

The Maruti WagonR is offered with 1.0-litre and 1.2-litre petrol engines. While the 1.0-litre engine is offers 68PS maximum power and 90Nm of torque, the 1.2 litre engine gives 83PS maximum power and 113Nm. The WagonR gets 5 speed MT/AMT gearbox. The fuel efficiency of the hatchback is 21.79 kmpl for 1.0-litre and 20.52 kmpl for 1.2-litre.

Celerio’s rival from Tata Motors is Tata Tiago. The Tiago gets a1.2-litre petrol engine, which offers a maximum power of 86PS and 113Nm of torque. The transmission system comprises of a 5 speed gearbox in manual as well automatic. The mileage offered by the hatchback is 20.09kmpl in MT and 19.27 kmpl in automatic.

The Renault Kwid is offered in a 1.0 litre engine in both manual and automatic transmission options. While the manual engine gives a mileage of 23kmpl, the automatic variant gives 22kmpl. The engine offers a 67bhp of maximum power and peak torque of 91Nm.

Dimensions

The Tata Tiago is longest car in the comparison with a length of 3765 mm. The Tiago is followed by Kwid (3731mm), Celerio (3695mm), Wagon R (3655) and lastly the Santro (3610mm). In terms of width, the Tiago is the widest of all with a width of 1677mm. The Tiago is followed by Celerio (1655mm), Santro (1645mm), WagonR (1620mm) and Kwid (1579).

The Celerio and the Wagon R have the longest Wheelbase of 2435 mm. The Kwid comes second in terms of wheelbase (2422 mm). The Santro and Tiago have the smallest wheelbase of 2400mm.

In terms of boot space, Wagon R leads the pack with 341 litres. The celerio has the second best boot space of 313 litres. Kwid gets a space of 279 litres while the Tiago has 242 litres of storage. The Santro has the lowest boot space of 235 litres.

In terms of height, the WagonR is the clear winner with 1675mm. The Kwid has the least height of 1490mm. The Celerio has 1555mm of height, while the Santro and Tiago have 1560 mm and 1535 mm height.

Features

On an overall comparison the Celerio and Tiago offer the most features to customers and are followed by Santro, WagonR and Kwid.

Price

The Tata Tiago is priced between Rs 5 lakh to Rs 7.09 lakh, while the Hyundai Santro costs between Rs 4.77 lakh to Rs 6.21 lakh. The WagonR is between Rs 4.93 lakh to Rs 6.46 lakh while Kwid costs between Rs 4.11 lakh to Rs 5.59 lakh. The 2021 Maruti Celerio is priced between Rs 4.99 lakh and Rs 6.94 lakh.
