Angul: At least three shops have been gutted and goods worth lakhs lost in a massive fire which broke out in Durgapur Bazaar under Chhendipada block in Angul district last night.
As per the report, sparks erupted in a shop in the market late in the night and came to light only after some traders spotted smokes billowing out of it at around 1 am. They immediately launched the firefighting efforts on their own but failed to contain the blaze.
Later, fire officials rushed to the spot and contained the flames but till then at least three shops had been reduced to ashes completely.
While the cause behind the fire is yet to be ascertained, an electric short circuit is suspected to the behind it.
