Train ticket booking rules changed, check details

The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has revised the rules for online ticket booking. Those who book train tickets online via the IRCTC website or app will now have to get their phone numbers and email IDs verified before booking tickets. If they don’t verify their phone no and Email-ID then they will not be allowed to book ticket.

According to reports, the new rule is applicable to those who have not done online booking since the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic, said IRCTC.

Follow the steps below to verify mobile numbers, e-mail IDs to reserve tickets via IRCTC

1. Go to the IRCTC website or app.
2. Open the verification window.
3. Enter your registered mobile number and e-mail id address.
4. Click on the verification option given on the right side.
5. If you want to make any change then click on the edit button on the left side.
6. After you tap on the verification option, you will receive a one-time password (OTP) on you registered number.
7. Enter the OTP for verification.
8. You can verify the email id with the similar process to complete the verification. However,you will receive the OPT or verification code on your mail instead of phone no.

How to do book ticket online after verification

After successful verification, follow the below steps to book tickets online.

1. Visit the IRCTC website or app and log in using your credentials.
2. Enter source station, destination, date of journey, and class of coach.
3. Select the train you want to journey on from a list that appears and click on Book Now button.
4. Now, give the information needed such as passengers name, age, gender, berth preference, choice of food/no food etc.
5. Make the payment after choosing the mode of payment and complete the transaction.
6. Now your ticket is booked.
