Boycott of Odisha Panchayat Polls Phase 2, Why & Where

Bhubaneswar: The distressed villagers in several parts of Odisha have boycotted the second phase of the panchayat polls citing various reasons.

The Panchayat elections will be held at 20,436 booths of 1514 gram panchayats among which 3,065 are sensitive booths in 186 Zilla Parishad zones of 68 blocks in 30 districts. As many as 62,10,000 people will cast their votes today.

The villagers of Baradajodi and Ladipadar under Tentulikhunti panchayat have boycotted the elections and protested against the alleged lack of basic amenities in their areas like proper road facilities, several students are deprived of education due to the lack of a school, lack of drinking water facility.

The voters have boycotted polling at booth-15 in Kuranga Sasan of Cuttack district protesting the detention of some people by police in connection with a case.

Similarly in Jajpur, the voting process have been halted at booth-5 in Bada Balikuda panchayat following confusion over the poll symbol of ward member candidate. While the people of 2 villages in the Dhenkanal Sadar block have also boycotted opposing a poultry farm near the village.

Adding to it, the voters of Asanabani in Kujudihi panchayat boycott polls in protest against various problems being faced by them in their area.
