Niali sheep killingNiali: Killing of sheep by mystery animals continues unabated in the Niali area of Cuttack district with four more sheep found dead in Dahijang village under Bilasuni panchayat last night.

Sheep carcasses were spotted in the cattle shed of one Udaynath Bhoi of the village early this morning. The modus operandi of the mystery animal remained the same and pug-marks with sharp nail indentations were found in and around the cattle shed. It is being suspected that the predator might have entered through the windows of the cattle shed before attacking the sheep.

Today’s ship killing left the villagers in Dahijang in a state of panic, as in last one month at least five incidents of wild animal attack have been reported from Niali and Kantapada blocks of the district leaving 31 sheep dead. Bilasuni panchayat alone has reported three such attacks with 9 sheep deaths.

Meanwhile, the forest department has put up cages at different places in Nadikulasahi area to catch the predator.
