Covaxin Neutralizes Multiple Variants Of SARS-CoV-2: ICMR Study
New Delhi: The Covid vaccine ‘Covaxin’ made by Bharat Biotech, is effective against multiple variants of SARS-CoV-2 and effectively neutralizes the double mutant strain, said a new study by Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Wednesday.
ICMR, the National Institute of Virology has successfully isolated and cultured multiple variants of concern of SARS-CoV-2 virus such as UK variant, Brazil Variant and South African variant.
According to ‘Journal of Travel Medicine, Volume 28, Issue 2’ that was published this year on March, ICMR-NIV has demonstrated potential of Covaxin against UK variant.
ICMR-NIV has recently isolated and cultured the double mutant strain that was identified in certain regions of India.
This development comes amid the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic being witnessed across the country.
According to the government data, a total of 2,99,90,197 people were also vaccinated in the same period, taking the total inoculation count to 13,01,19,310.
