4 killed, 1 injured in separate road mishaps in Odisha

Balasore/Puri: At least four persons including a former sarpanch were killed and another sustained critical injury in two separate road mishaps which took place in Balasore and Puri district in the state last night.

In the first incident, at least one youth was killed and two others turned critical after a bike they were traveling on was hit by a truck at Fuladi Chhak under Balasore Sadar police station area late last night.

While one of the victims identified as Indrmani Dandapat died on the spot, another namely Pradip Mohapatra succumbed to the injuries while being rushed to Balasore DHH. Another critically injured youth in the incident Ramesh Das was shifted to SCB Medical in Cuttack from Balasore DHH of late.

All the victims in the incidents are residents of Laxmipur and Kalama areas of Mayurbhanj district.

Angry locals staged a road blockade at Fuladi Chhak following the accident and removed it after police’s intervention.

In a similar incident in Gop on the same night, a former sarpanch of Birutang panchayat was killed after his bike was mowed down by a speeding truck near Sarada Square on Gop-Konark Road. The deceased has been identified as Rajiv Lochan Roy. He was returning from Konark when the tragedy struck.

Later in the night in Gop, a fish trader identified as Niranjan Behera of Beguna was killed after losing control on his bike and hitting a roadside tree near Dalanai area on Gop-Balighai Road.

Ramachandi Police reached the spot and seized the bodies for autopsy.
