Odisha: Congress Campaign Committee Chairman Bhakta Das resigns

Bhubaneswar: Senior Congress leader Bhakta Charan Das reportedly resigned from the post of Campaign Committee Chairman following party’s poor performance in the recently concluded Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in Odisha.

In his letter to the Malikarjun Kharge, the president of AICC, Das said, “I was appointed as chairman of Campaign Committee of Odisha Pradesh Congress Committee on 22nd March 2024. I am really grateful that the party reposed faith in me.”

“I worked hard to contribute my best but unfortunately we failed to come up to the expectations. We really appreciate the kind support and cooperation received from the Hon’ble Congress President, Former President Sri Rahul Gandhi Ji and other senior leaders of AICC during the election,” he added.

The senior leader further said, “I take the moral responsibility of failure to get expected number of seats both in Assembly and Parliament election in Odisha. Therefore, I hereby resign from the post of Chairman, Campaign Committee, Odisha.”

It is to be noted here that the grand old party won just 1 of 21 Lok Sabha seats and 14 of 147 Assembly seats in Odisha.

Das himself lost the Assembly election from Narla constituency to Manoram Mohanty of Biju Janata Dal with a margin of 5,205 votes.
