Bhubaneswar: The Odisha unit of BJP and BJD have started hurling election-funding allegations at each other a day-after the seizure of unaccounted Rs 40.5 lakh by Bargarh police.

A BJP-delegation led by Spokesperson Sajjan Sharma filed a complaint with the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Odisha, alleging that the seized money belonged to ruling BJD and was meant for distribution in by-poll bound Bijepur.

Besides, it sought the transfer of Padmapur SDPO Laxmi Narayan Panda alleging that he was working to favour the ruling-BJD in the upcoming by-election.

Hours later, the state ruling BJD also approached the Chief Electoral Officer demanding Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income-Tax probe into the seizure of the cash. It alleged that the arrested persons have links with BJP and the saffron party would have distributed the money to the voters in Bijepur.

“The arrested businessman who has been identified as Omm Prakash Agrawal is a member of Viswa Hindu Parishad while his son Akash Agrawal is a VHP and BJP activist. Besides, Akash was involved in the Padmapur church burning case,” alleged BJD-Vice President Surya Narayan Patro.

The Padmapur police in Bargarh district had seized the cash from a SUV near Mahulapalli yesterday. Earlier on February 14, the Gaisilat police had also seized Rs 3.2 lakh from two cars at Talpali Square of the poll-bound district.
