Odisha stares at heavy rains in next 24 hours
Bhubaneswar: The Regional centre of India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Monday hoisted the Cautionary Signal Number Three (LC-III) at all ports in Odisha in view of the low pressure area formed over Northwest Bay of Bengal and adjoining coastal areas of Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal, which is likely to take the form of a depression in the next 24 hours.
An IMD bulletin issued this afternoon said the associated upper air cyclonic circulation extends up to 7.6 KM above mean sea level and the system is likely to intensify into a depression during the next 24 hours.
The Weatherman predicted heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places with extremely heavy rainfall at one or two places over the districts of South Odisha and heavy to very heavy rainfall at one or two places over districts of North Odisha in the next 24 hours.
This apart, strong gusty surface wind from Northeasterly direction with speed reaching 45-55 KMPH gusting to 65 KMPH is likely to prevail along and off Odisha Coast.
The Meteorological department has also advised fishermen to stay away from the sea as its condition would be rough to very rough.
