Miscreants hurl bombs at pickup van in Khordha; 4 hurt

Khordha: Tension ran high at Godiapali Square in the district on the outskirts of state capital Bhubaneswar on Saturday after a group of unidentified miscreants hurled bombs at a pickup van and injured at least four persons including a woman.

The injured have been identified as cattle traders from Vishakhapatnam of neighbouring Andhra Pradesh.

The mishap took place early in the morning while the traders were on their way to Khordha cattle market on a business trip. The pickup van which was carrying them was chased by a group of bike-borne miscreants on Khordha-Godiapali road. In a bid to intercept the vehicle they targeted the van with bombs on two occasions between Gobindpur and Kadamal area. The van got severely damaged leaving injured all four boarding. However, the attackers fled from the spot without looting anything from the traders as the driver didn’t stop the van.

The injured were shifted to a nearby hospital by Begunia Police later in the morning, where the condition of the van driver remained critical.

Police have started an investigation into the incident and are trying to trace the attackers.
