KISS becomes first Exclusive Tribal University in the world

KISS which has already received the deemed to be university under the denovo category by the Union HRD Ministry, received the University status for imparting holistic quality education to the tribal students of Odisha.

According to reports, though the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) in Amarkantak of Madhya Pradesh was the first Tribal University, students of other categories also study there while all of KISS students are tribal.

On this occasion, KISS and KIIT founder Dr. Achyuta Samanta thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, HRD Minister Prakash Javdekar and Union Ministers Jual Oram and Dharmendra Pradhan and the people of the state for their wish and support to the institute.

Addressing the students and staff of the institute, Dr. Samanta also thanked the students and employees of KISS. He urged everyone to celebrate the moment but to prove that they are the best.

KISS is a fully free, fully residential home for 27000 poorest of the poor indigenous children who are provided holistic education from Kindergarten to Post Graduation along with lodging, boarding, health care facilities besides vocational and life skill empowerment.

With a humble beginning in 1992-93 with only 125 students, KISS has now become the world’s largest residential institute for indigenous children. The Institute plans to educate 2,00,000 poor indigenous children over the next decade by setting up branches in 30 districts of Odisha and all the states of India.
