Gangster Raja Acharya walks out of Jharpada jail

Bhubaneswar: Gangster Raja Acharya on Wednesday walked out of Jharpada jail.

Raja, who was arrested in connection with the abduction of a Bhubaneswar-based Jyote Motors employee in 2010, was granted conditional bail by the Orissa High Court on April 20. He was granted conditional bail on deposit of Rs 50,000 and two sureties.

This apart, the court has directed the gangster to depose at the Lingaraj police station every week and stay away from any kind of criminal or offensive activities.

After the Bhubaneswar Additional District Judge Court rejected his bail plea in last March, Raja had moved the High Court seeking bail.

Odisha police had arrested Raja from Goa on May 28, 2008 in connection with the high profile murder of judo coach Biranchi Das. Later, he was lodged in Jharpara Special Jail after Bhubaneswar District and Sessions Court convicted and sentenced him to life imprisonment in December 2010.

Acharya was also awarded a four-year jail term in October 2011 for abducting Arun Mantri, brother of Ollywood actress Bidusmita, in April 2008.

As many as 40 cases are pending against Raja.
