Bhubaneswar: The political blame game between BJP and BJD over construction of second bridge on Brahmani river near Rourkela in Sundergarh district continues with Odisha Parliamentary Affairs Minister Bikram Keshari Arukha on Wednesday clarifying that the bridge construction does not need any forest clearance.

Arukha’s clarification in the Zero hour of the ongoing winter session came following Union Transport & Highway Minister Nitin Gadkari’s reply to Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s letter over the issue.

The Parliamentary Affairs Minister said that the Union government should not give any excuse for the delay of the project, rather begin the construction work soon and the state government is ready for co-operation.

The state unit of BJP also cornered the state government by raising the issue in the Assembly and stalling the proceedings of the House.

Reacting to Arukha’s clarification, Odisha BJP Legislative Party leader K.V. Singh Deo said that the issue should be referred to the House Privileges Committee to ascertain who is saying the truth, so that the truth is exposed within 15 days.

Odisha CM, in his letter to Gadkari, had urged for the immediate construction of the second bridge on National Highway-143 near Panposh, or allow the state government to construct it on its own sources. However, Gadkari replied him saying that the construction work is getting delayed as Odisha government is delaying the forest clearance and land acquisition process for the project.

Gadkari had laid foundation stone for the project on July 21.
