Taiwan plans to employ 1 lakh Indian workers in various sectors

Taiwan is set to hire at least 1 lakh employees of Indian workers across sectors such as factories, farms, and hospitals.

Taipei City: In a bid to address its aging population and bolster its workforce, Taiwan is set to hire a significant number of Indian workers, with the target of recruiting at least 1 lakh employees across sectors such as factories, farms, and hospitals.

A forthcoming employment mobility agreement between Taiwan and India is expected to be signed by December, according to a Bloomberg report.

The move, while addressing Taiwan’s demographic challenges, may contribute to heightened geopolitical tensions with China. China has consistently opposed official exchanges with Taiwan, considering it a self-governed island that Beijing claims as its own territory.

The Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson, Arindam Bagchi, confirmed that the employment pact between India and Taiwan is in the final stages of negotiation. Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor has expressed its openness to collaboration with countries capable of providing additional workers.

Taiwan, currently experiencing its lowest unemployment rate since 2000, aims to maintain its economic stability by offering Indian workers’ pay parity with locals and insurance policies. The island nation’s $790 billion economy sees this initiative as crucial to addressing workforce needs.

This development follows a similar trend, as Israel also expressed interest in hiring 100,000 workers from India to replace Palestinians who lost their jobs after the Israel-Hamas conflict. While the initiative is not confirmed yet, it aligns with a potential long-term plan, according to statements from the Ministry of External Affairs.

This strategic move reflects the global demand for skilled and unskilled labor and indicates efforts by nations to manage demographic challenges and sustain economic growth.
