JioPhone Next launch postponed, to roll out before Diwali; Check expected price, specs

Reliance Jio has announced that it has postponed the roll out of the JioPhone Next by a few weeks and will launch it before Diwali in India. The phone was set to launch on Ganesh Chaturthi (September 10), but a global shortage of semiconductor chip has caused the company to delay the roll out of the much awaited smartphone.

The global semiconductor chip shortage has impacted the automobile, PC, and smartphone industry. The company says “this additional time will also help mitigate the current industry-wide, global semiconductor shortages.”

Jio has confirmed that the device will be rolled out before Diwali, which is taking place on November 4 this year. The company has revealed that the smartphone is currently in advanced trials.

‘JioPhone Next’ is currently being tested with a limited set of users for further refinement and “are actively working to make it available more widely in time for the Diwali festive season,” stated the company.

Reliance Jio announced the JioPhone Next in partnership with tech giant Google in June. At that time the company had said that this affordable smartphone would go on sale starting from September 10. But now, the launch has been delayed.

The company is yet to reveal that price and availability details of the ‘Jio Phone Next’.

JioPhone Next Specifications:

The JioPhone Next has been designed in partnership with Google. Leaks suggest that the smartphone will be priced at Rs 3,499 in India.

The phone is confirmed to have 4G connection, and other features like voice assistant, automatic read-aloud of screen text language translation, smart camera with augmented reality filters, and much more.

The phone also comes preloaded with Google Play, and India specific Snapchat lenses, which is directly accessible from the phone’s camera.

The images shared by the company has revealed that it has thick bezels at the top and bottom, and one camera each on the front and back of the phone. However, it does nor include a fingerprint sensor.

It also supports a digital assistant, HDR mode. Users can also change the language of the phone’s content with just a tap of a button. ​

Reliance has confirmed that its latest JioPhone will get most of the major Android OS as well as security updates.

Previous leaks has suggested that the JioPhone Next will carry Android 11 (Go edition) and might have a 5.5-inch display.

The phone is likely to have a dual-SIM support, a 2,500mAh battery, and a Qualcomm QM215 SoC paired with 2GB or 3GB RAM options. The phone could have 16GB or 32GB storage options.

However, these details are not officially confirmed by the company. For more details, we have to wait till its launch.
