How to download Instagram reels video from public accounts

Instagram has introduced a new download feature to enable users to save Reels from public accounts easily. With this much-needed feature, users can now save their favourite Reels directly to on their device and watch it offline.

Announcing the feature, Instagram’s head, Adam Mosseri said that now anyone, anywhere on the globe, can easily download public Reels straight to their devices. Now, users don’t need to venture to unsafe third-party apps as they can directly save it in their camera rolls.

Note that the reels downloaded from public accounts will have an Instagram watermark, displaying the creator’s username and audio attribution. Downloaded versions of the download-enabled Reels will retain the original audio used in the Reel. This ensures that the downloaded content remains consistent with the creator’s original vision.

Earlier, the meta-owned photo-sharing app only allowed users to save reels in the app itself. With the download feature they can save it in the camera roll too.

For those with public accounts, the ability to download your Reels is open to anyone on Instagram by default. Only adults above age of 18 will get access to the download feature. For those under the age of 18, Reels download will be turned off by default. However, they retain the option of allowing other users to download their Reels if they choose to do so.

Reels from private accounts cannot be downloaded. But, users can also restrict their creative content from being downloaded easily by others then they can also chang privacy settings.

How to Download Instagram Reels from Public Accounts?

Step 1: Go to the reel, you want to download.

Step 2: Check if the Instagram Reels belongs to a public account.

Step 3: Tap on the three dots icon located in the bottom right corner of the Reel screen.

Step 4: You will see various options.

Step 5: Select the Download option among the various options in the menu.

Step 6: This will initiate the download process of the selected Reel.

Step 7: The reel will get downloaded to the designated folder or gallery.

How to change Download Settings of your account

This is how you can manage whether your Reels can be downloaded by others or not. follow these steps below:

Step 1: Open the Instagram app.

Step 2: Open your profile page by tapping on your profile picture in the bottom right corner of the screen.

Step 3: : Tap on the three horizontal lines icon located in the top right corner of the screen.

Step 4: Select Settings and scroll down to Privacy option.

Step 5: Now, Tap on “Reels and Remix.”

Step 6: You can either turn on or off the switch for download feature under “Allow People to Download Your Reels” section.

When enabled, your Reels will be downloadable by others; when disabled, they will not.

While Instagram provides users with the ability to download Reels, it is important to note that they retain limited control over how the downloaded content is utilized. You should not use downloaded reels for commercial purposes without the express permission of the creator.
