Angul: A lady school teacher was killed and her husband and minor son sustained critical injuries after a speeding truck hit the bike the family was traveling by on NH-55 near Nalco CPP in Angul district today.
The deceased teacher has been identified as Jyotirmayee Pradhan (35).
Jyotirmayee, a resident of Kankali village in Dhenkanal district was en-route to Angul in some work this morning when the tragedy struck. While riding pillion on a bike (Registration No. OR 19 B 2034) along with her 5-year-old son and husband namely Prakash Behera, a speeding truck hit the family from rear right in front of the CPP main gate.
While Jyotirmayee slipped off the bike and fell under the wheels of the truck to get crushed to death, her husband and son sustained injuries in the crash.
Getting intimation on the mishap Nalco Police rushed to the spot and sent the injured to Angul District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) for treatment. Later it sent the body for autopsy.
Efforts are underway to trace the driver of the truck involved in the accident as he has managed to escape from the spot.
