Kalahandi: Unrest was reported at Vedanta Alumina at Lanjigarh in Kalahandi district on Monday; which resulted in two deaths and left over 20 injured.
The discord occurred between the displaced families and the Vedanta Alumina’s security personnel. The discord intensified and disperse the crown lathi charge was undertaken. One protestor’s death occurred due to the lathi charge. One security personnel, from Odisha Industrial Security Force, was also killed in the violent clash.
The victims have been identified as Dani Batra and Sujit Kumar respectively.
Vedanta Alumina has announced a ex gratia of Rs 25 lakhs for both the victims’ families.
Prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure were imposed outside the refinery following the clash.
