Two die after consuming mango kernel in Odisha Village

Nabarangpur: Two persons of a tribal family died and three others fell critically ill after consuming mango kernel at Mainapadar village under Jharigam block of Nabarangpur district in Odisha on Tuesday.

The deceased have been identified as Sudhamani Santa and Namita Santa. While the former was the wife of Arjun Santa of the tribal dominant village, the later was his younger sister.

According to reports, the family members of Arjun consumed mango kernel gruel last night, following which five of them complained of severe loose motion and vomiting.

The sick members were rushed to Jharigam CHC for treatment at around 3 AM today, where Namita was declared brought dead.

Later, four members of the family shifted to District Headquarters Hospital (DHH) here as their health conditions were deteriorated. However, Sudhamani died before reaching the DHH, informed Sobharani Mishra, CDMO In charge.

Arujun’s six-year old son and younger brother were undergoing treatment and their condition was stated to be critical, she added.

Meanwhile a special team of doctors has reached the Mainapadar village to take stock of the situation, Mishra said.
