Stones were pelted on police personnel during immersion procession of Goddess Durga idol in Odisha’s Balasore district.

Balasore: In a disturbing incident, stones were pelted on police personnel during immersion procession of Goddess Durga idol in Odisha’s Balasore district. The incident occurred in Balasore Cinema Chakk area when the cops stopped them locals to play sound box after the said time limit. The situation escalated to the point where the police were subjected to a barrage of stones.

As the sound of the DJ box was quite high, the locals complained about it. Following the complaint, police reached the spot and asked to shut down the sound boxes.

This decision, however, triggered anger among the attendees, leading to a confrontation. Incensed by the interruption, the mob resorted to violence. The situation took a dangerous turn when the crowd started pelting the police with stones.

Following the incident, the police was forced to lathi charge on them. Four individuals, including police personnel, were injured in the violence.

Balasore’s Superintendent of Police, Sagarika Nath, along with her team, responded swiftly to control the situation.

Balasore district Collector, Deputy Collector and IG Himanshu Lal also reached the scene to assess the situation. Following discussions with the local residents, it was decided to shut down the sound box to prevent further disturbances. Law enforcement officers have been deployed widely across Balasore Cinema Chakk, Motiganj, Mandal Bazaar, and Barabati areas to maintain peace and order. Further detailed reports are awaited.
