Puri: Taking prompt action in the ‘fake Mahaparasad’ (food not offered to deities) selling case at the Anand Bazar in Srimandir here, the temple authorities on Saturday dismissed the accused servitor from all his duties.

Action against the accused servitor identified as Gadadhar Dikhit was initiated after the Suar and Mahasuar Nijog Committee convened a meeting on the issue on Friday. After Dikhit was found guilty he was dismissed from all his duties in the temple and even barred from entering into the kitchen.

Dikhit who happens to be a ‘Suar Sevayat’ or (temple kitchen servitor) stirred a controversy on Friday after he put up a pot of ‘dal’ prepared by him for sale at the ‘Anand Bazar’ (food market of the temple) after failing to offer it to deities. While as per the prevailing rituals the ‘dal’ must be buried, Dikhit’s act raised eyebrows among devotees and Jagannath culture lovers.

Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) has maintained that as Dikhit’s mistake is unpardonable stringent action would be taken against him.
