Sick tusker dies under treatment in Dhenkanal

Kamakhyanagar: In yet another case of pachyderm death in the state, an ailing wild tusker which had been rescued from Tarodnali forest under Mahabir Road Forest Range a couple of days ago succumbed under treatment today.

The Veterinary officials who were treating the jumbo declared him dead this morning following which it was sent for post-mortem.

Notably, the sick elephant had been tranquilized by the forest officials and put under treatment around 3 days ago. Some locals had first spotted it lying in a farmland near the Tarodnali forest and called up Mahabir Road Forest Range.

However, the condition of the elephant had started deteriorating since last night.

The incident has sparked concern among the animal lovers and environmentalists in the area.
