Servitors to use non-camera phones inside Jagannath Temple Puri: The Chhatisha Niyog (priests’ body) on Wednesday has put restrictions on the use of smartphones by servitors in the premises of Shree Jagannath Temple in the wake of a selfie taken by a youth inside the shrine going viral.

The priests’ body took the decision at a meeting under the chairmanship of Shree Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA) Pradeep Jena. However, it allowed the use of feature phones or non-camera phones inside the temple.

The meeting also decided that special logos approved by the SJTA will be put on the mobile phones of the servitors.

The meeting planned to introduce Closed User Groups (CUG) system for the servitors and will discuss with mobile operators soon, said Jena.

Sources said the meeting, attended by District Collector Aravind Agrawal, also discussed the schedule for the special rituals to be performed during the upcoming holy Kartik month.
