Rare Pangolin weighing 20 kg rescued from Keonjhar village

Keonjhar: Forest officials seized a rare pangolin from Gumura forest beat area under Champua Range in Keonjhar district today morning while the animal was trying to sneak into a nearby village and later released into forest.

As per the report, the pangolin weighing around 20 kg was spotted by some villagers in Lunagunthani village in the morning while trying to enter into a resident’s house. They immediately called up forest officials and reported the matter.

Champua Ranger Ghasinath Patra rushed to the spot immediately and rescued the pangolin.

The animal was later released into the nearby forest after necessary medical treatment by Veterinary staffs.

Notably, animal incursion has become a daily affair in forests located near Gumura forest as a couple of days ago a deer had also been rescued from Luagunthani village under similar circumstances.

Water scarcity caused by scorching hit in past few days has compelled the wild animals to sneak into human habitat, said forest department sources.
